SHAME ON CAPITAL ONE (CAP1) CREDIT CARD "DISPUTE" DEPARTMENT !

I filed a "dispute " re a dishonest merchant (trying to keep the facts out of this to avoid being identified by Cap1 who might "cut me off" if they don't like this criticism) ...the DISHONEST MERCHANT overcharged me under coercion...

 

I had credible fear of repercussion if I did not agree to the payment at the time.. so I paid and left and then filed dispute with Cap1 ...

 

…they asked for me to submit a written explanation and any receipts etc to back up my claim...I spent several hours of researching the fair costs etc and did a lengthy written "report" showing EXACTLY WHY this merchant was CLEARLY EXTORTING money from me...I submitted this...,

 

…and at the same time they received a copy of my "signed receipt" from the merchant...this is ALL the merchant submitted... then Cap1 asked me for another form that they could "use against the merchant" as if they were going to try to NEGOTIATE A FAIR SETTLEMENT.....

 

…so I SUBMITTED extra evidence against the LYING, DISHONEST MERCHANT, and shortly later I got a  notice, and then had a conversation with a person in the so-called "dispute department".

 

This person (who did not identify him or herself) so I cannot name the person (another problem with these gigantic institutions...there is very little to no accountability...

 

…most of the time when you call you speak to somebody from India , or even in India, or another part of the world..it's always easy to tell because they are ESL speakers , ie English as a Second Language...

 

..this is NOT criticism of them , per se, I have nothing against people from India or any other part of the world, but if you are living here in the USA most of the time it's easier and quicker to communicate with somebody of your own heritage...

 

…they can or should more quickly understand your situation for what it really is...) ... nonetheless this final person I spoke with was clearly American ...so I had high hopes..but after listening he/she simply reduced my lengthy story and explanation (written and spoken ) to the fact that I "signed the receipt" and therefore there is nothing else they can do... ; I was STUNNED ... what in the WORLD does the DISPUTE PROCESS do for us then ? 

 

Sure, there may be a few cases where merchants fraudulently sign a receipt in your name...but  MOST CASES I assume have to do with a merchant selling you faulty merchandise, or fraudulently raising the price or cost of an item or service,  (as they did to me)... after an initial offer of a much lower price to which I agreed

 

…because I am trying to remain anonymous I cannot give too many more details, but I WANT TO BE CLEAR that CAP1 did NOT SEEM TO CARE much about me as a person...the final agent kept saying "visa/mastercard requires us to do this..." blah blah blah as if they hated trying to deal with disputes and are resigned to just " GOING THRU THE MOTIONS"...

 

WELL, then why did they ASK for further evidence to "use against the merchant" after my initial written response and AFTER they received the merchant's response (my signed signature)...I NEVER DISPUTED that I did NOT sign the receipt. I said it was COERCED AND NOT of FREE WILL, and also showed why the price was OUTLANDISHLY EXCESSIVE for the services performed..

 

THIS did NOT shake the final agent's reply at all.. it was CLEAR that they do NOT want to truly become "invested" in your dispute and truly do NOT want to try to understand the situation..I had HIGH HOPES in the  beginning, but was DASHED, DISAPPOINTED & DEPRESSED at the end.

 

SHAME SHAME SHAME on capital1 for their "kangaroo court" dispute process. They do NOT really care. I say that with CERTAINTY NOW. They should SIMPLY say up front that if you sign a receipt and the merchant sends a copy in to them, that they will DO NOTHING FURTHER.

 

They apparently won't care if a merchant charged you $1000 for screwing in a lightbulb, as long as you signed the receipt. They will NOT care about the situation, the coercion, the extenuating circumstances, or anything else.

 

IT IS SHAMEFUL ! Unfortunately I still need to maintain my relationship with Cap1 so I have to remain COVERT in my criticism, but as soon as I am able I will SPEAK OUT MORE.

 

In my opinion Cap1 is just as dishonest as the merchant in this case because they simply do NOT CARE. NOT CARING leads to a dishonest work ethic of just "going thru the motions" which decays everything around you... it makes the community a dog-eat-dog world...totally un-American.. SHAME ON CAP1
